Can I ask you something?

Hi, Reader!

Hello!

I’m thinking about running some workshops, which might be right up your alley - or not, at all. So I thought I’d ask.

This isn’t a “please fill in this survey” thing, more that I’m honestly figuring out what would be most useful. You’re one of my newsletter subscribers, and I’d like to make Whizzy Brain useful for you. Although I also realise I don’t actually know why you’re here, which feels like something I probably should have asked before now. Maybe you’re interested in writing, or late diagnosed neurodivergence, or just my general chaos.

So. I have three ideas, and admittedly they’re all aimed at writers — or people who used to think of themselves as writers, or people who are wondering if they might be writers, or people who aren’t quite ready yet to claim “writer” as part of their identity but desperately want to (and should). You know who you are.

Does starting to write feel like the hardest part, even on the days when you actually want to? Laptop’s open, pen poised over notebook… and then you’re doomscrolling TikTok and don’t even remember picking up your phone. I’m thinking about a workshop called Getting to the Page.

Maybe you’re thinking about Starting To Write Again. You’ve been away from writing for a while — months, maybe years, maybe decades — and despite beating yourself up about it cajoling, making colour coded plans, you can’t quite find your way back in.

Or is your brain absolutely full of interesting things — books, articles, dialogue snippets, half-formed ideas, patterns and connections from things you watched at 11pm and immediately forgot — but none of it’s fuelling actual writing? There’s kindling scattered everywhere but the spark isn’t catching. I’m thinking about Your Brain Is A Murder Board for that one (working title, bear with me).

If none of these apply to you right now, that’s interesting to me too. Hit reply and tell me why you’re here — genuinely, I’d love to know.

And if one of them made something in you go ooooh, that one — just telling me which title is immensely helpful.

Happy Writing - or not, as the case may be,

Gail

Hi, Reader! It's been gorgeous seeing some of your lovely faces in Write Club, and I know that a lot of good work has come out of it, which makes me SO happy. I tried it as an experiment but being totally honest, it's not working like I thought it would in its current iteration. When you add in the fact that April is mostly eaten up by school holidays here: I'm pausing Write Club for now. All remaining Sunday and Wednesday sessions in March 2026 will still run. It will resurface, and will...

Hi, Reader! I was almost late for school pick up today. Not just because while I was trying to find shoes suitable for this crappy weather, I discovered that one half of my favourite boots had a nail through the sole (seriously, how didn't I notice this while wearing them?) but because I had a LIGHTBULB moment. I'm going to run a write-along for the rest of March. This thought just popped into my mind. And my first instinct was to reply -- Yes. Yes I am. I'll be honest here, this is as much...

Hi, Reader! You've found your way to this corner of the internet maybe via a recommendation from someone I work with, or some flavour of Google search involving "Help for ADHD writers", "How to write a book when you can't focus", or "writing with low spoons". This is a space for the gloriously imperfect, the neurodivergent late bloomers, and the ones who dream of escaping to a cabin in the woods with a stack of books and zero notifications. New: Write Club is Open I've made a place for us!...
